NGA bodybuilding pro qualifier on tap

OGDEN ? The 2012 NGA National Bodybuilding, Figure, Bikini, and Men?s Physique Pro Qualifier will be Saturday at Peery?s Egyptian Theater.

The pre-judge is set for 10:30 a.m., with the night show at 7 p.m. Cost is $8 and $12 in advance; $10 and $15 at the door. You can purchase tickets at Max Muscle in Layton and Bountiful, Perry?s Egyptian Theater, Smith Tix, or call James Purtell (801-731-9333) or Bianca Purtell (801-499-3633).

Hale nabs his third RMR modified title

WEST VALLEY CITY ? After a season of multiple high finishes, including two main-event wins, defending Maverik Modified champion Michael Hale claimed his third championship at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Saturday night.

?We had a consistently fast car that led to good finishes, culminating in a championship year.? said Hale.

Hale will join Lynn Hardy and retired Maverik Modified racer Gary Madsen as the only drivers who have won multiple Maverik Modified championships.

?We have some of the best racers in the country and for Michael to dominate the class as he did speaks volumes of his ability and the quality of his team.? says Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain Raceways general manager.

Hale did not disappoint fans at the final point race of the season, finishing in second behind main event winner Michael Haddenham.

Haddenham finished in first, Hale in second, Jeffrey Webster in third, Zachary Webster in fourth and Roger Wilson in fifth.

Saturday?s race marked the completion of the 2012 Maverik Modified point race but the series will return next week for bragging rights and cash at the Modified 100.

Several of Rocky Mountain Raceways other classes also crowned their champions. Mini Cup racer Tracy Rider celebrated winning a 2012 championship.

Figure-8 Car racer Cory Hutchings secured a championship season with a 49-point lead over Tim Fahrner.

A true test of sportsmanship unfolded with the Focus Midgets tonight as Ron Duncombe graciously allowed Jim Waters to pilot his race car in the main event following a spectacular heat race crash that would leave the car inoperable.

ASA Weekly Racing will conclude its 2012 season at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Saturday, with the Modified 100. Additional classes crowning their champions include Winged Sprints, Focus Midgets, Hornets, and Howe Rental & Sales Figure-8 Trains. Gates open at 4 p.m.; racing starts at 6 p.m.

Olympian Rhode to visit Cabela?s store

LEHI ? Cabela?s will host USA Shooting Team member and five-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode at its Lehi store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Rhode will discuss her career as the world?s most accomplished women?s double trap and skeet shooter, and will be available for autographs and photos.

Rhode is the only American athlete to win medals in individual events in five straight Olympic Games, including gold in women?s skeet at the 2012 games in London. She earned gold in double trap at the 1996 and 2004 Olympics, and also is a six-time national champion.

The Lehi store is located at 2502 Cabela?s Blvd.

Mascot Bowl set for Monday at Lehi

LEHI ? Lehi High School will host the ninth annual Mascot Bowl, presented by Lehi High School Sports Marketing and EnergySolutions.

This event is designed to raise money for the ?Firemen and Friends for Kids? and ?Bear Hugs for Kids? charity; established to provide a Christmas shopping spree for local children in need.

The Lehi 8th-grade football team will be taking on an All-Star Mascot team. The mascots will be coached by former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, along with Utah icons Ron McBride and Frank Layden. Chris Wingert and Andy Williams from Real Salt Lake and Aaron Lesue from the Utah Blaze will also help the mascots on their quest for victory.

The mascot team features ?Bear? of the Utah Jazz, ?Grizbee? of the Utah Grizzlies, ?Swoop? from the University of Utah, BYU?s ?Cosmo,? ?Rocky? from the Rocky Mountain Raceway, Weber State?s ?Waldo, ?Leonardo? from SLC Real, ?Torch? from the Utah Blaze and ?Bumble: from Salt Lake Bees.

In addition to the game, activities will include photo and autograph opportunities with the mascots, celebrity coaches, and quarterbacks. The event begins at 6 p.m. , and ends with fireworks. Tickets are $3.
