2012-15 Michigan Arts & Humanities Touring Directory Now Available

LANSING? The Michigan Humanities Council, in partnership with the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, is proud to debut its new 2012-15 Arts & Humanities Touring Directory.

Available at www.michiganhumanities.org, the directory features 175 of Michigan?s top arts and humanities performers ? including dancers, actors, actresses, musicians, storytellers, tradition bearers, poets, visual artists and more. The digital directory, which features a print option, includes program descriptions, fees and contact persons for each listing, as well as photographs, videos and short biographies. Please note that viewing the directory requires a Flash player.

The directory is used in the Arts & Humanities Touring program, which provides grants to Michigan nonprofits in order to bring these performers to their communities. Schools and nonprofits may request up to 40 percent of a performer, presenter or exhibitor?s fee and travel expense, but the grant may not exceed $3,000. Between September 2011 and March 2012, 121 Touring grants were awarded totaling $62,000.

Organizations may begin applying for these grants on Sept. 6 through the Humanities Council?s online granting system. Users must create an account but once their organization information is recorded, it stays in the system for easy access when applying for future grants. If you experience any problems with the online application, please call the Council at (517) 372-7770.

To celebrate our Michigan performers, the Humanities Council will host PerformFest, a free performer?s showcase on Oct. 10 at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will include 25 on-stage performances and another 40 exhibitors, all available for booking in the 2012-15 Touring Directory. This showcase will not only provide exposure to performers and exhibitors, but it will also increase awareness about the directory and the grants available to nonprofit institutions. For more information on PerformFest and how you can attend, please contact Audrey Dowell at (517) 372-7770 or adowell@mihumanities.org.
